2006: A new Year has begun!
This is a new year, this is a new time to begin a life full of desires and full of new projects ... at the same time, we have to keep the good memories of the last years and live in harmony between our past, the present and the future.
A new year has begun and a year has passed away, a new year is a bundle of new chances for all of us. We shall begin now and whatever the projects we start, whatever the new spirit we breathe, let´s keep fidelity to ourselves and to our values.
A new year has begun and a year has passed away! But let us keep in our mind the lections of the past, if there are some ... I mean friendship and humanity, the respect for other people and to ourselves ... Let us begin with joy and look forward now!
We will begin a new life in Bavaria, which means a new home, a new environment, new neighbours and collegues. We are facing new challenges and the goals are to get integrated in this new area, to be successful in a new job, to enjoy this new region and to stay in contact with our friends. Then nothing can replace a good friendship.

First of all, I wish both of you a very happy new year; may it be filled with joy, success, and many valuable teachings.
I agree that nothing can replace (strictly speaking) a good friendship. It is, however, very difficult to tell what exactly a good friendship is. What makes someone a good friend? Why are we compelled to be good friends? I have thought about these questions since long ago... Once I read the Lysis, a very interesting and beautiful dialogue in which Plato occupies himself with this subject. At the end, we realize that not even Plato (or the Socrates who speaks) knows what friendship is. There, Socrates says:
"I am one who from my childhood upward have set my heart upon a certain thing. All people have their fancies; some desire horses, and others dogs; and some are fond of gold, and others of honour. Now, I have no violent desire of any of these things; but I have a passion for friends; and I would rather have a good friend than the best cock or quail in the world: I would even go further, and say the best horse or dog. Yea, by the dog of Egypt, I should greatly prefer a real friend to all the gold of Darius, or even to Darius himself: I am such a lover of friends as that. And when I see you and Lysis, at your early age, so easily possessed of this treasure, and so soon, he of you, and you of him, I am amazed and delighted, seeing that I myself, although I am now advanced in years, am so far from having made a similar acquisition, that I do not even know in what way a friend is acquired."
Viele liebe Grüße und bis nächste mal...
srguillot rules! That was the most unexpected and long answer to a post that i have seen so far...
To continue with the subject I can say that each human being has his own way of having and loving his friends, but the common factor that I see is loyalty.
I suppose that doesnt solve the problem, since now I have to define loyalty.
Let me just say that for me loyalty is based on confidence, respect and the will to support the other in "the good and the bad times".
bis bald!
pi rules too! Of all things, I think confidence is absolutely necessary between real friends.
Post again soon!
Loyalty is a good word. A word with character, like an idol which every body wishes for his life.
How can you measure somebody's loyalty?
The people are very different.
And so it is much more difficult to define the loyalty If you live in a country, which is not your homeland;
the same to situation, which Pi writes: "to support in good or bad times", does every body understand you so well that can feel the same what is good or bad for you?
